Then, succedded to activate ssh access via support.html page and log in as root user with ssh on ix2-200 device (password was simply soho and firmware=2.1.25.229) Linux running is a debian 5.0.2 (see /etc/debianversion) ARM release. I finally succed to have apt-get running, but I didn’t try to install anything for the moment. Thanks for your post. It very much helped me with the setup of my ix2-200 (2TB Cloud Edition). I’ve been able to set up my storage, shares, security, users, permissions and personal cloud. I’ve managed to install the Storage Manager client on both my iMac and MacBook Pro, and both can see.

Now running the latest (and maybe the last) CE Firmware (3.2.16.30221).
Updated May 2020:
An Anonymous user posted in the comments 16/5/2020 that Lenovo had released a new update (3.2.16.30221) that worked for him - Had to try it out and followed the link to the page.
(The reported end of life was 2015 (3.2.14.30167) but apparently, they decided to give us a security update)..

All links have been checked and updated when necessary - kept the dead links if someone bothers to try to find the old pages in the 'archives'.
Not all files are accessible from their original location anymore.I downloaded all files and have them shared here including the newest update.
There are additional links in the comment section that are worth looking at - including some on how to upgrade the disks to a larger size.
_____________________________________________________
Have been running the NAS 24/7 since April 2016.
It hasn't failed yet. (knock on wood).

Even the 2 old original Seagate Barracudas (ST32000542AS, CC38) runs consistently and quite.
It's used as a backup for essential files on my Synology DS918+. (8GB RAM and 2x10TB+2x12TB Seagate IronWolf NAS drives)
The Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 has a very nice look and feel to it - brushed aluminum. It's somewhat heavy and solid. Even if it's a bit old, I felt it would be a waste to throw it out if it works.
I bought my ix2-200 in 2011 but turned it off in 2013 because of the noise the disks started to make - disks were essentially fine but didn't spin down when I didn't use it. The NAS wouldn't sleep and neither could I.
Got it out of my way from 2013-2016. Didn't replace it, so I had all my files on different HDDs all over the place. Not very productive and a big mess - ended up having loads of redundant files - that was hard to find regardless.
I wanted to use the NAS, but without an update, I wouldn't be able to get rid of the noise from the disks that never slept - I hoped an update would solve it.
Iomega (later Lenovo) stopped making updates for this box years ago and according to them, it couldn't be updated above version 2.1.42.18967. Officially that is.
Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 non cloud edition, 4TB (2x2TB) version

Finally got this cool alubox out and started it up. Deleted the files with a system format. (they were all more than 3 years old anyway) and started to search the web for some way to give it new life.
Found this old guide and decided to try it. - Success! (Screengrab of that page if it gets deleted)
(Someone (dead link) claimed that the update steps could have been done with the official firmware (dead link) without the decrypted version from netboy69 (dead link) but I didn't try that - main reason was that I didn't see it until I after finished the upgrade and looked for an update - I applied the update later from within the firmware without problems).

Iomega Ix2 Software

Since this box stores all OS information on the disks, I removed them and made an image of both to have the option of returning to a working version, should the planned update fail (they are supposed to be identical and for all, I know they were - but just in case).
Tested the images and when I felt comfortable they were okay, I was good to go.
Removed the partitions on both drives and installed them back in the unit.
I downloaded the decrypted Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 Cloud Edition Firmware 3.1.12.47838 (dated 2011-07-29) from
SendSpace as linked to in Burak Alkan's guide.
I had a 2GB takeMS colorline USB Flash Drive with a LED indicator formatted in FAT32, a SATA to USB, and a trusty paperclip ready - other users had reported problems with USB drives so try a different one if it doesn't work.
Prepared the USB drive with the folders emctoolsix2-200d_images and copied the firmware into that folder. Some may need to name the second folder 'ix2-200_images' (without the 'd').
(Actually, I made both folders and after the first run, the ix2-200d was the one with the temp folder in it.)
Bended the paperclip to fit and taped it to the back of the ix2-200 (it was supposed to sit there for close to 2-3 minutes anyway).
Deleted all partitions on the disks with EaseUS Partition Master Free and installed them back in the unit.

Ix2 200 Cloud Edition Firmware
Inserted the USB in the front USB-port - some have had little success with this and had to use one of the USB ports on the back, others said it didn't matter - but it worked for me.
Inserted the power cord and waited.
After 47 seconds the disks started to spin and the USB started to flash 30 seconds later.
Removed the paperclip and waited.
3 minutes and 30 seconds later the system shut down.
Removed the USB and turned the system on.
It got an IP in 2 minutes and named itself 'Host-002', but was inaccessible via HTTP.
Waited the suggested 10 minutes and reset the USB (removed the temp folder) and tried again.
Same procedure as the first time but this time, when the system got an IP, the system was named ix2-200-TI1DW3.
A short time later I had access to the ix2-200 with the new firmware.
Before update

After update

The firmware was already preparing the disks for Raid-1, but I wanted to setup Raid-0 so I deleted the auto shares already setup and changed the settings - did not wait for the disks to finish.
Pressed apply and within a few minutes, the system was running in Raid-0.
The extra capacity is caused by a 1TB disk added to the USB

When checking the firmware, the box stated it was up to date. However, I found a later firmware version (3.2.14.30167) here and gave it a try. This was apparently the last update made for this box dated 08/13/2015.
Checked 'Software Updates' in the 'System' menu and pressed 'Add Software' to upload the file. After a few minutes it rebooted and the firmware was updated.
On May 16. 2020 an anonymous user commented that he had found a new update for the unit on the official Lenovo site.
Time to clean up my backup unit - that had worked flawlessly for years now.
The 'right' way to do this is to backup up the drive before the update even if it isn't supposed to be destructive, but since mine is only holding daily backups and my Synology is healthy I just took the chance and updated the system as it was.
Downloaded version 3.2.16.30221 - It was actually a very slow download so if you need it (and trust that I didn't alter it) - I have a copy here.
Uploaded the software to the unit and that took a while (5-10 minutes), but don't worry it's an old unit so when it finally finished I got this.

Pressed 'apply' and got a little warning.
Feeling brave I pressed Yes and the update started.

That was the fasted part of the whole process and within a few minutes, it finished successfully.
So I'm now running version 3.2.16.30221 from April 2019 on a 2011 unit that had an EOL back in 2015. Thanks to an anonymous comment and some nostalgic Lenovo employee.
Hard drives
Others have successfully upgraded this unit to 6TB and had this been a 1TB or 2TB model I would have upgraded to larger disks. As for now, I'm just happy it works.
Still happy with the disks and I'm not thinking of upgrading them yet. If I do - I'll update this page.
I have to thank netboy69 (dead link) for providing the decrypted firmware - and I do..
Thank you very much - whoever you are.
Thanks for the anonymous comment too - and naturally the guy at Lenovo that compiled the latest firmware 4 years after EOL.
